AutoCAD is a widely used commercial 2D CAD application. It remains in use by designers, engineers, architects, and artists around the world. AutoCAD has a current customer base of nearly 500,000 users, who have collectively produced millions of pages of design data.
The global AutoCAD user community has grown steadily over the past 30 years, making AutoCAD the world’s second-most-used software. It is used by 3D modeling programs to create 3D models and documents, for creating 2D drawings and plans, for digital prototyping, and for drafting, tracing, and blueprinting. Its wide range of output options also supports a variety of non-CAD output such as PDF, HTML, and email, although the most common output is to generate traditional drawing files.
Current Autodesk AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT users are generally an older demographic, although younger users have been experimenting with the technology since its inception.
AutoCAD is a major revision of the 1983 CAD application and research project called AutoCad. The founding team of AutoCAD was from the original AutoDesk team, including Jim Kerwin and Dan Sandin. The two met at the Stanford University Student Center Computer Center (UCSC) at Stanford University, where Kerwin taught programming to Sandin, the latter’s major project in the fall of 1981, and later at the Stanford Computer Science Laboratory (CSL), where Kerwin ran the computer graphics group. Sandin was the lead programmer of the project. Later on, Kerwin had a brief career at CAD consulting and industry positions at Autodesk.

The team created a prototype of the software for the IEEE ASSP, and the Autodesk team was invited to participate in the 1982 ASSP proceedings at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California. During the ASSP, the Autodesk team discussed the pros and cons of computer-assisted design (CAD) for architects and engineers. They decided to extend the software to generate drawings and concepts, which became AutoCAD. They also produced, for the first time, a large-scale CAD display of the National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Legacy AutoCAD applications
AutoCAD also includes an extensive legacy component library, AutoLISP, which, among other things, can be used to automate the creation of drawing objects, to add dimensions and to convert to/from other drawing file formats such as DWG, DWF, DXF and PLT, as well as to create Autodesk-based reports. The legacy software was written by the University of California, San Diego.
Design as program
AutoCAD is also a software architecture for the development of computer programs. The concept was first introduced in the 1990s and was a proposal for a concept called AutoCAD that is implemented in the current CAD program AutoCAD LT, which is an essential CAD program for smaller companies and individuals who need a simple CAD program.
The data pipeline (pipeline) is used to input and output data in AutoCAD. Data can be input in the form of either CAD data or through the graphical user interface (GUI). The data is fed into the data pipeline through the input panel and then into the database. The GUI interface communicates with the database through the data pipeline.
A standard data pipeline is provided as part of the AutoCAD LT, AutoCAD and AutoCAD R20 installation packages. The pipeline consists of two components, the pipe and the px and py files.
The pipe is a set of text files and associated binary files that encode the pipeline and its required actions. Each action in the pipeline is encoded in the pipe as a set of characters, actions are organized into blocks. Actions are triggered by clicking a selection button or by entering a command.
The px and py files are text files that set up the execution environment for the pipeline. The px file is an AutoLISP (or Visual LISP) script file that defines variables and defines the names of action functions. The py file is used to invoke the px script. The pipe and px/py files define the parameters that are passed to the actions and set up the environment for the execution of the actions.
The concept of using a mouse to interact with AutoCAD’s interface originated with the original AutoCAD program. Later, the program included tools for drawing dimensions, edit functions and other features, which were present from the initial release of AutoCAD on in the late 1980s. The keyboard commands, which would allow the use of an alternate keyboard, were

This invention relates to the class of electrochemical devices which may be defined as electrochemical oxygen sensors. This class of devices has many applications including the control of air/fuel ratio in internal combustion engines and the control of the water content in an atmosphere containing vaporized water. Most of these devices are of the type in which the electrodes of the device are immersed in a liquid electrolyte. These electrodes are usually noble metals such as platinum.
It has been determined that the best way of detecting the presence of oxygen is to employ a solid-state electrochemical cell having a non-corroding ceramic or glass electrolyte. By solid state is meant that the electrode and electrolyte are in a single, integral, solid structure which has a finite surface area to volume ratio. In practice the electrodes are mounted on the side of the electrolyte. The electrolyte is selected to be of the type which is resistant to the elements present in the gas or liquid atmosphere in which it is used. As a consequence of this, the electrolyte, when fully immersed, may be made of a fused salt of lithium and silver, such as lithium/silver sulfide. These electrodes can be placed either in a separate battery, having one pole connected to the electrode to be measured and the other pole connected to a reference electrode, or can be included in an integrated battery structure.
Most of the prior art electrochemical oxygen sensors, including integrated ones, have either employed a platinum-platinum oxide reference
What’s New in the AutoCAD?
The Import Feedback tool is now available for AutoCAD release 2020 (available for AutoCAD 2019 and AutoCAD 2018). It is fully integrated into the Markup Assist tool that supports importing from external files.
Implement a feature allowing the 2D object properties to be edited when used as the object for a selection. Previously, changes were applied to all instances of the 2D object. (video: 0:30 min.)
Simplified and enhanced connectivity to CAD servers. The new Server Manager replaces the add-on product that offered connectivity to many different CAD servers.
There are now two types of connections to CAD servers: direct connections and indirect connections. An indirect connection is a way for AutoCAD to access a server indirectly using a file share or third-party CAD system. Indirect connections are much faster and easier than direct connections. However, CAD servers are not recommended for use with indirect connections.
